Saint Barbara is the patron saint of miners. Who comes from the Ruhr area or another typical mining region, which is the name "St. Barbara "certainly crossed paths in one form or another. But why was the chapel so named in this beautiful location in the middle of the Dolomites? One can only surmise that the chapel, built in 1491, was built by miners who once mined the ice at the foot of Monte Pore. Another explanation could be the mining of silver, which is believed to have been mined near Tolpei. Whatever it was, the builders of this chapel had a feeling for the perfect location of this idyllic place of rest.
