The keyword is Milly Steger. She created the great sculptures at the theater

In 1909, the "Theater AG" was formed with considerable private participation from Hagen citizens; in 1910, the theater association joined the AG. The commitment of theater enthusiasts from the city and region played a decisive role in Hagen getting its own stage - the theater therefore still proudly sees itself as a "citizens' theater" to this day.

From the 107 designs submitted to the "Building Competition in the German Empire 1909", the second-place design by Prof. Dr. Ing. Ernst Vetterlein was selected for implementation. Compared to the first-place design, it was characterized by a more moderate formal language in the spirit of historicism. Nevertheless, the theater is still one of the city's architectural landmarks today, a structural highlight on the central shopping mile, Elberfelder Strasse.

The special features of the theater building include four 2.50 m high figures that decorate the facade above the main entrance: ancient muses by the Hagen sculptor Milly Steger, who came from the sphere of the Art Nouveau style that was so influential in Hagen. Steger's figures caused a great stir for a long time because of their lush bare breasts and undisguised nudity.

The theater looks nice from the outside. I can't say anything more because I haven't been there yet.
