Oil palms have fallen into disrepute due to large-scale monoculture cultivation. Here in Sri Lanka it can be seen how the cultivation of oil palms is managed in a sustainable way. This can be explored wonderfully on a hike through the oil palm gardens of the Pelawatta Estate and there are a number of endemic species to discover for bird lovers.
