Completed in 1924, Brekke Locks form Europe's highest continuous lock staircase, lifting boats 26.6 metres through four lock chambers between Lakes Aspern and Femsjøen. Part of the historic Halden Canal, the locks remain in operation today and are a fascinating place to watch boats being raised or lowered through one of Norway's most impressive engineering landmarks.
