The two ponds (Waltersteich) were created here in 1686 with the consent of the Minister of Minnigerode by Forstmeister Klipstein and Förster Kempf as trout ponds. The name of the ponds is said to come from a carter Walter, who was to be thrown into the water with his wagon and died in it. But not only he died in the water of Waltersteiches: The water is considered by locals as a "suicidal pond"!
