The St. Katharinen Church in Bergkirchen is one of the medieval and therefore oldest churches in the regional church. The Romanesque nave was built in the 12th century; other parts of the cruciform hall church were built in the Gothic style in several periods from west to east. In addition to the baptismal font donated by Count Hermann of Holstein-Schaumburg in 1622, the pulpit from 1684 and the organ built in 1716, a sandstone epitaph of the Drost of Sachsenhagen, who died in 1563, adorns the chancel.

The church, which can be seen from far away, is located in the north of Schaumburg on the ridge of the Rehburg Mountains. The unique location on the mountain ridge allows for wide views in all directions: to the north to the Steinhuder Meer, to the east and west to the forest-covered hills of the Düdinghäuser Berg and the Rehburg Mountains and to the south far into the Weserbergland. On the other hand, the ridge with its characteristic silhouette can be seen from far away.
