Important note for Rhone glaciers !!!"Very dynamic situation on the glacier tongue of the Rhone Glacier. On July 20/21 it came to
Collapse of a water-filled cavity in the glacier (approx. 50 x 10 x 10m). More collapses can
to be expected. In addition, rapid enlargement of the lake due to calving of the glacier.
Loss of glacier thickness currently estimated in the decimeter range per day. the lateral ones
Slopes are destabilized by the retreating ice (scree slides and falling rocks).
Changes in the glacier and the lateral slopes are visible from day to day. So trickier
Access from the "mainland" (cave entrance and surroundings) to the glacier.
Staying on the glacier tongue (up to several 100 m from the lake shore!) must be considered risky
be assessed for possible further collapses.
Applies to all tours with access via the Rhone Glacier and crevasse rescue exercises, etc
