Castellum Fectio (near Fort Vechten) was founded as a foothold in the Limes (on the World Heritage List) during Emperor Tiberius and remained in use until the end of the 3rd century AD. The contours of the old castellum have now been restored to the landscape and contain part of the proceeds of excavations. Leave your bike at the gate and explore on foot.

Beautiful winding path along the old fortress of Vechten and the former Roman army camp - a replica of a Roman watchtower has been placed here. Beware: on busy Sunday afternoons you cannot drive here at full speed due to the number of touring cyclists, walkers and cars.
