Unterpleichfeld was first mentioned in 741, one year before the diocese of Würzburg was founded. At the end of the 18th century, after a checkered history, the place was destroyed by fire and had to be rebuilt.

For a long time there were three canning factories in Unterpleichfeld. The last one, the Sauerkrautfabrik Wilhelm Bötsch oHG, closed its doors in 2011. However, the traditional herb festival is still celebrated and is known beyond the country's borders. It takes place on the first weekend in October.
