The story began in 1893 with the Stanserhorn
When the best way to Lucerne was over the lake
Real pioneering spirit and the urge for superlatives were evident again and again. The first railway to be powered by electricity was the Stanserhorn Railway. It was also the steepest funicular railway and the first funicular railway without a rack and pinion. And on top of that, it was the only one that led to the summit in three sections.
1891 - The first general meeting took place in May and construction of the Stanserhorn Railway began in June.
1893 - Opening of the Stanserhorn Railway from Stans to the Stanserhorn and Hotel Stanserhorn Kulm on August 23, 1893. Built by the mountain railway pioneers Franz Josef Bucher-Durrer and Josef Durrer-Gasser.
1895 - With a light intensity of 22,000 standard candles, the electric Stanserhorn headlight shines from the mountain into the valley.
1934 - An airplane crash occurred on May 24, 1934. The DH 5 No. 452, which had taken off from Dübendorf, crashed on the Stanserhorn.
1993 - Toni Businger, a world-famous artist with Stanser roots, painted the cable car cabins with colorful alpine flowers on a yellow background. A new headlight was purchased to mark the 100th anniversary of the Stanserhorn cable car.
2009 - In an accident between a truck and carriage 2 of the funicular, the wooden structure was destroyed and then rebuilt.
2010 - Renovation of carriage 1 of the Stans-Kälti funicular section.
2012 - Opening of the world first CabriO® cable car - the world's first double-decker cable car with an open upper deck

Take the nostalgic train to Chälti and then the 10-year-old convertible train to the Stanserhorn. The view of the mountains is always beautiful.

Stanserhorn Railway from 1893
The Stanserhorn Railway was constructed in 1893 by Franz Josef Bucher and Josef Durrer as a funicular railway. The second section now runs as a "CabriO" (open upper deck, 2012) to 1,900 m with a wonderful panoramic view (April to November).
