Nature reserve

The walk and Gais ponds located in the southern outer area of the city of Dinkelsbühl, district of Ansbach, including their adjacent bank areas, were designated as a nature reserve in 1984, with a size of 33.9 hectares!
The ponds have a special meaning for the bird world!
e.g .: purple heron and goosander

The purpose of defining the nature reserve is ..
... to protect the ponds with their silting zones as an undisturbed habitat for a species-rich flora and fauna;
... to secure the breeding and resting biotopes for numerous rare and partly endangered bird species and to keep disturbances away;
... to maintain the living conditions required for the existence of the local bird world, in particular the existing hydrological situation.
