Dante in Paradise mentions this bridge as "Where Sile and Cagnan accompanies each other". Built at the meeting point between the waters of the Sile and those of the Cagnan, it was called the "bridge of the Impossible" until 1865 due to the numerous difficulties encountered in its construction. Subsequently he took the name of the great poet. These were also the banks of the "squeri", that is, the areas dedicated to the construction of boats used for trade with Venice.
