The road runs through the gorge of the river Vernaison above Sainte-Eulalie to Les Barraques en Vercors. Partly carved out of the rock and partly built as a tunnel in the first half of the 19th century, it offers a spectacular driving experience. Unfortunately, the big brother further up was closed in 2008 and replaced by a 1.7 km long tunnel.
It's best to check locally to see if the road is open. As of summer 2021, further maintenance work and closures are planned.
