Nice, small place and above it sits the well-preserved castle ruins of the same name. A local history association takes care of its preservation. There are restaurants directly in the castle courtyard. From the top you have a good view over the Saale, an arch of the Saale and back to Naumburg.

The Schönburg is located directly on the Saale Cycle Path. Very well-preserved castle complex above the village of Schönburg, east of Naumburg.

The hilltop castle rises on a sandstone cliff about 40 meters above the Saale. The complex consists of the outer castle and the core castle, each with an almost rectangular floor plan. Between the two there is a kennel, through which a chamber gate with Romanesque edge columns in the gate reveal leads. What is particularly worth seeing is the 32 meter high, climbable keep (wall thickness 3.60 m, original high entrance 8 meters high) with its beautiful fireplace in the tower chamber and the guard room at the top of the tower. The tower dates from around 1230. The last building still standing in the core castle was called the courthouse - today it is the knight's hall, where wedding ceremonies also take place. Large parts of the defensive walls around the outer and inner baileys are still there.
