The Dorsten double lock is one of the five locks on the Wesel-Datteln Canal. It overcomes a height difference of nine meters. Both locks are operated from Datteln by the remote control center of the Duisburg-Meiderich Water and Economic Authority. The large lock, which is equipped with lifting portals, was built in 1931. It is 225 meters long, 12 meters wide and has a discharge depth of 2.80 meters. The capacity is 26,500 cubic meters. This means that two European ships can pass through at the same time. A maximum of one simple push convoy based on a large motor freight ship can use this lock. This is the largest type of ship permitted on the Wesel-Datteln Canal. dorsten-lexikon.de/schleuse
