C A Kullgren died during a visit to the first world exhibition in the Crystal Palace in London in 1851 and the cross in light fine-grained ore granite exhibited by the company was erected on his grave in the Swedish cemetery.

The cross's dark patina is probably due to the impact of London's fog over the more than 60 years - normally the granite is grey.

Lightning is often said to have then struck around it and also the "bad times" began after the cross was erected on Draget according to popular belief.

Kullgren's ashes were moved to Uddevalla in 1913 and the cross was dedicated as a memorial stone at Draget in July 1914.
