The war memorial is located on the south side of the parish church of St. John the Baptist in the middle of Griesstätt. Inaugurated and erected in honor of the victims of the Franco-German War (1870 - 1871) in 1905. The Griesstätt Warrior and Reservist Association was founded in 1866 and is still very active today in the commemorative care of all those who fell and missing. The King Ludwig II stele, as a memorial to the happy returnees at the time, is probably a symbol of peace. Ludwig II was a peace-loving ruler in his time. Bavaria nevertheless had to take part in the Franco-German war. The result was the establishment of the German Empire around 1871 under the rule of Prussia. Below the likeness of the fairy tale king is the typical Prussian spiked hood, crossed bayonet lances, two banners in white and blue, cannons and bullets.

In addition, part of the Camino de Santiago leads past the stele.

      Rarely found on Fallen Commemoratives.

Here at the King Ludwig stele, not only the fallen are remembered, but also the heroes who have returned.
