Hiking
The Malerweg is a hiking trail in the Elbe Sandstone Mountains. It got its name because many painters (e.g. Ludwig Richter and Caspar David Friedrich) often created romantic views of the rock formations in the past centuries. In 2007 it was voted the most beautiful hiking trail in Germany.

The south descent from the Neuer Wildenstein/Kuhstall, marked with a red dot, leads down into the gorge via steps and stairs. At the end there is also a ladder that is well secured and not heavy. You can easily get around it by walking between the rocks.
The descent is extremely exciting. From here, paths lead through the beautiful forest area to the Kleiner Winterstein, to the Affensteine, the rear Kuhstallweg, back to the Kuhstallstraße and to the Zeughausstraße.
