The monument shows the prince consort in the robes of a Knight of the Trouser Order. In his hands he holds the blueprint of London's Crystal Palace, a building he designed himself for the first World Exhibition in London in 1851, and a marshal's baton.

The larger-than-life statue, cast in bronze, was made based on a model by the English sculptor William Theed the Younger.
