The Friesenheimer Insel is an island in the northwest of Mannheim in the Neckarstadt-West district that was created by river engineering measures. The island, surrounded by the Rhine, Old Rhine and Neckar, was created as part of the Rhine straightening. It is located at about kilometer 428 to 431 of the Rhine opposite the BASF industrial plants, which stretch along the western bank of the Rhine in Ludwigshafen. (Source: Wikipedia)
