The shelter stands directly on top of a volcano. Very beautiful view. But the ascent is very difficult. :-!

Cycling

If you fancy a bit of scrambling, take the climb from Tetenbornerstrasse. The route is suitable for sure-footed walkers with sturdy shoes and mountain bikes. According to the Komoot navigation app, the gradient is 22%. But I think it was considerably more in some places, at least in the direct line that I took. From the opposite side, the climb doesn't seem quite as steep. (I'll try that next time 😉)
You can get a wonderful view over Steina from the Harzklubhütte Talblick.
