The terraces of the Roman Theater stand on the steep slopes of Pipet Hill. In ancient times and after major mining operations, the summit was a religious esplanade, whose temples and divine statues formed a sacred extension of the theater.
There is space for around 13,000 spectators; the theater was one of the largest city theaters in the Roman Empire and the second largest in Gaul after that in Autun.

It was only during excavations between 1908 and 1938 that the monument was unearthed and restored after being buried under thousands of square meters of earth.
After the restoration, the theater has the role of an entertainer:
Operas, musicals, dances and a jazz festival.
