Iphofen still has three preserved city gates and this is by far the most beautiful and also something very special. At the end of the 13th century, when the first Iphofen fortification was built, a gate already existed. The gate received its current appearance in the 15th century. Later, the pointed roof with the wooden tiles was built over it and finally the rectangular building was built on the left. Due to the mixing of the architectural styles and the dark red half-timbering, the building looks very picturesque, but also a little picturesque.

Rödelsee Gate
The Rödelseer Tor is the best known and oldest of the three surviving city gates. It is considered a pearl among Iphofen's famous buildings. With its original hollow-brick roofed tower, the decorative half-timbering and the gatehouse, it became the subject of countless painters and photographers and at the same time the symbol of the city.
It was built during the reign of Bishop John III. von Grumbach (1455 – 1466), whose coat of arms bears the machicolation on the outside. Remarkable is the "little loophole" in the still attached gate wings, which was opened when a latecomer asked for admission.
