The village of Balestrino is a ghost town in the heart of the province of Savona, made famous by its total abandonment. Its depopulation dates back to the 1960s, when the population was forced to relocate to a new area downstream due to the geological instability of the terrain. Today, the old town is dominated by the imposing ruins of the Del Carretto Castle and houses swallowed up by vegetation, creating an atmosphere suspended in time. Although the village is inaccessible for safety reasons, its charm remains intact. It remains a popular destination for photographers and lovers of abandoned places, who admire it from afar.

Italy's most famous ghost town. The old town was abandoned in 1953. Due to the danger of collapse, no tours are possible inside.
