Meriden is hailed as the historical centre of historical England and a monument on the village green marks the point. However, this claim was shown to be inaccurate upon investigation in 1920. Nevertheless, it remains a pleasant village with a few places for food and drink and shops, making it a good place for a pit-stop. There is also accommodation for anyone completing the Millennium Way or Heart of England Way long-distance walks, which both pass close to Meriden.

Meriden is a quietly understated location with an ancient stone cross marking the historic centre of England on its village green. On the same green there is also a national monument to the cyclists who lost their lives serving their country in the world wars.

Other than the monuments there is nothing to mark this location; no fuss made, no visitors centre, no tourist information, just a co-op, chip shop and a newsagent.
Perhaps worth visiting, it's on the route of a lot of footpaths and there are good cycle paths on the sides of roads but blink and you'll miss it.
