    Tips

On the occasion of a spring tunnel for water supply, I have to briefly quote the humorist Heinz Erhardt (1909 - 1979), whom I highly admire, who was known to a wide audience for his wordplay and “another poem”, with one of his - very rare - shaking rhymes :

“The four-legged friend only drinks water,

    “People think beer is finer.”

    (H. Erhardt)

The "Langenborn" spring tunnel is part of a system for supplying drinking water to the city of Frankfurt. In 1874, Prussian hydraulic engineers tapped fifteen springs in the Kassel and Bieber districts and connected them to each other via a tunnel-like, accessible pipe system. The route along all the spring tunnels is 15 km long. The annual water volume from this system supplies 330,000 Frankfurt residents.

The path that leads to the spring tunnel is paved according to Prussian tradition. This path has remained unchanged since 1874 without any maintenance.
