On the occasion of a spring tunnel for the water supply, I have to briefly quote the humorist Heinz Erhardt (1909 – 1979), who I admire and who was known to a wide audience for his wit and “Noch'n poem”, with one of his – very rare – rhymes :

The Gießerborn is a ducted spring and is part of the "Frankfurt spring water pipe" structure, which was built between 1874 and 1875 to direct the water from several springs in the Biebertal and the Kasselgrund to Frankfurt.

The "Gieserborn" spring tunnel is part of a system for supplying the city of Frankfurt with drinking water.
In 1874, Prussian hydraulic engineers tapped fifteen springs in the districts of Kassel and Bieber and connected them to each other via a tunnel-like, accessible pipe system. The route along all source tunnels is 15 km long. 330,000 Frankfurt citizens are supplied with the annual water volume from this system.
A water treatment plant is located opposite the tunnel, where all the water from the system is analyzed and cleaned.
