The Lajos Archbishop's Garden of Szmrecsányi (or Népkert before its official name before 1990, its official name from Érsekkert between 1990-2019) is the central park of Eger.
Its territory was already an archbishop's hunting ground in the 13th century. The natural forest was surrounded by Bishop Károly Eszterházy, and the ornate gates still exist on the north and west sides of the park. It is bordered on the east by the Eger stream. For a long time it was an archbishop's private estate, opened only in 1919 under pressure from the council. The park is approx. 12 acres.
