In the small town of Mariastein in the Tyrolean lowlands, the snow-white castle and chapel perched on a rock. Built in the 14th century by the noble family of the Freundsberger, the church was elevated to a pilgrimage church after a Marian miracle in the 18th century. The destination of many pilgrims is the beautiful Madonna portrait in the richly decorated Chapel of Mercy, which can be reached via 142 steps.
