From the end of the 1970s, a converted construction trailer served as a provisional house of worship for Christians. Pastor Gottfried Möller (Kartlow) strongly advocated for the construction of a proper church, thereby defying both the National Socialists (indirectly) and the SED. The first groundbreaking took place on August 5, 1990, and the topping-out ceremony on September 26, 1990 – even before German reunification. The church was built as part of a church construction program in the GDR with financial support from Schleswig-Holstein, erected by the GDR foreign trade company Limex-Bau, and consecrated in February 1991.
