a very charming little nunnery with very nice and friendly nuns. There is a small monastery shop and plenty of nice shaded seating with tables for picnics. Beautiful flowers everywhere, beautiful icons in the little churches and chapels. And in the monastery garden a large, ancient plane tree

The Monastery of Saint Vlasius (Mone Agiou Vlasiou) near Ano Trikala is an important religious center with a centuries-long history. Tradition holds that the monastery was founded around 1400 after a miraculous icon of Saint Vlasius was discovered in a nearby cave.
The current main church (Katholikon) dates from the 17th century. It houses an intricately carved wooden iconostasis from the 18th century and icons that date back in part to the 7th or 8th centuries.

In the monastery garden stands a plane tree over 200 years old. During the Ottoman rule, the monastery served as an important spiritual center. Since 1924, it has been run as a convent.
