Great bike path from Senheim to Neef, without any cars on this side of the Moselle

Beautiful ruin. Unfortunately, it can only be viewed from the outside. A place that exudes calm. Worth a visit

The ruins of the church of the former Augustinian monastery are located on the Moselle loop between Neef and Ediger-Eller.

I was there in July, a small natural beach on the Moselle.
The ruins were cordoned off, with portable toilets and umbrellas for events, so this is just my shadow.

The founding of the monastery at the beginning of the 12th century goes back to the Augustinian canons of Springiersbach. At the request of his daughter Gisela, the nobleman Egelolf gave Abbot Richard I von Springiersbach his castle house, a chapel and other properties on a promontory near Bremm for the construction of a monastery - a donation that enabled him to have a St. Nicholas church built. Stuben is first mentioned as ecclesia beati Nicolai de insula, around 1160 as sorores de Insula. In 1137 a large women's convent settled here. The Archbishop of Trier, Albero, limited this to 100 women in his founding confirmation of 1137. The knight Heinrich von Ulmen (verifiably 1202-1236) gave his sister Irmgard von Ulmen, as head of the monastery, the Staurothek (today in the Limburg an der Lahn Diocesan Museum) with particles of the cross and other relics that he had from the Fourth Crusade (1202-1204). brought with him Constantinople. Since then, Stuben has attracted many pilgrims. A cross chapel was built around 1275 to venerate the relic. Despite the economic decline, the monastery church and cross chapel were rebuilt in 1685-1687. In 1788 the monastery was converted into a free women's monastery, and in 1802 it was closed. The monastery buildings were auctioned for demolition in 1820.

Even if you are on the opposite side of the Moselle, it is worth making the short change to visit the impressive monastery ruins.

The monastery from 1137 belonged to the Augustinian monasteries and is still impressive to look at today. It is surrounded by vineyards directly on the Moselle.

The bathing area is very hidden. Just walk past the vineyards at the ruins in the direction of the Moselle.
