The municipality of Berg en Dal has placed the artwork at this location near and across the border as a lasting reminder of the horrors of the war and of the flood and evacuation in 1944/45, which suffered on both sides of the border. The monument is part of the memorial and walking route, which was created as part of 75 years of freedom in this region and was an initiative of the Thornsche Molen Foundation.
