The Evangelical Church "St. Maria "in Hordorf was endowed and built in 1299 by Bruno von Brunsrode.

The village church was rebuilt between 1693 and 1698 under Pastor Christoph Quenstedt, after it was destroyed by fire during the Thirty Years' War. Only the tower remained from the previous building. This is a church building in the Baroque style. In the GDR the church fell into disrepair. The upper part of the tower was demolished in the early 1980s. Furthermore, the roof structure, which was in danger of collapsing, was torn down and the church organ from 1747 was given to Bad Belzig. The influences of the early Baroque were visible inside. The former painting was whitewashed due to improper and poor painting. Only remnants of this overpainting can be seen in the anteroom next to the bell tower. On the long sides of the nave there were double-sided galleries and double rows of windows were installed so that daylight could fall on the galleries. The entrance to the church was on the tower in the form of a Renaissance portal. This is badly weathered and was exposed to decay for a long time. Over the course of over 40 years of decay, a jungle of trees and bushes has emerged around the church and in the interior of the former nave. In the ruins of the nave, only an altar, a bell and the clockwork remained. The altar is over 500 years old and comes from the first church from before the Reformation. In 2015, a support association was founded that is committed to repairing the church and revitalizing the nave for church services and cultural events. The overgrown ruins were cleaned up. The nave has had a roof again since December 2017. And in March 2018, windows were installed again.
