For the murdered eleven Resistance fighters from Thann and the surrounding area

In October 1944, the Gestapo murdered eleven French resistance fighters, mostly from Thann in Alsace. They had hidden with others from forced conscription, were tracked down and taken to Offenburg prison via Mulhouse and Freiburg. On December 6, 1944, at 3:30 p.m., they were taken out of prison by Gestapo chief Schöner and three other Gestapo men, transported to Rammersweier on a truck and brutally shot in the neck by a shot in the neck. Then they were thrown into a bomb crater in the former parade ground. None of the Gestapo people involved were prosecuted. The remains of the dead were not recovered until two years later and then buried in Thann. Since 1995, the local administration of Rammersweier, the local council and the municipal council from the twin municipality of Vieux-Thann have been commemorating this terrible crime at a commemoration ceremony at the memorial.
