The Heidelberg – Speyer line was a single-track branch line opened in Baden-Württemberg and Rhineland-Palatinate in 1873 and is great to drive. Partly great views

The Electoral Palatinate route (old Heidelberg-Speyer railway line) is ideal for a day tour starting in Heidelberg. Almost always away from traffic and without major inclines, the 31-kilometer route is also suitable for families. The route starts below the Heidelberg Castle on the Kornmarkt and leads in a south-westerly direction via the Heidelberg main station, Eppelheim, Plankstadt, Schwetzingen and Ketsch to the Speyer Imperial Cathedral.

This is the old railway route, personally I usually take the other route along the Rhine to Speyer.
