The sculpture Key of the Hourly Striker by Hans Arp (1886-1966) is back in Mainz after ten years. The large sculpture created in 1962 by the German-French painter, graphic artist, sculptor and poet is initially in the customs port. After the renovation of the town hall, the bronze sculpture, which is more than four meters high, will be placed in front of it again. At its opening in 1974, the work of art, weighing several hundred kilos, was presented as a gift by the state government.

In 2011, the state capital of Mainz awarded the large sculpture, initially on the occasion of the Federal Horticultural Show in Koblenz and then for several exhibitions at the Arp-Museum Bahnhof Rolandseck. At the time, the cultural department and the museum had agreed that the large sculpture should remain in Remagen until the renovation of the Mainz town hall was completed. A period of ten years was targeted.
