A must-see in the Dominican Republic is the village of Altos de Chavón in La Romana, a recreation of a 16th-century Italo-Spanish village with its cobblestone streets and coral stone and terracotta block buildings. This replica was built in 1976 by Roberto Copa, a former designer at Paramount Studios, and Charles Bludhorn, an American industrialist, on a site with beautiful views of the Chavón River.

This reconstructed complex is a must when visiting La Romana. What we didn't find was that there was an entrance fee. But the $7 is definitely worth paying for it.
