The Pescarina dewatering pump was built between 1856 and 1858 by the S. Spirito Institute, based on a project by the engineer Sleghel, to replace a previous sewer from the early 1800s which was used to divert the water from the Po di Goro.

The waters from the drainage of the "countryside" flowed into the plant, which were introduced into the "Po Morto" of Goro to flow into the sea through an eighteenth-century lock that was filled in in 1960.

Since the first decades of the 1900s, the dewatering pump became insufficient due to its limited potential. The original dewatering pumps, first steam-powered and then diesel-powered, were replaced by more modern electric machines and, to this day, the plant still functions as a pre-lift station for the waste water from the surrounding fields, to introduce it into the Canal Bianco.

Further downstream, before flowing into the Sacca di Goro, the waters of the Canal Bianco must be further raised by the dewatering pump Romanina.
