"Aue and oe" - up and down is the view over the humped meadows in the valley plains between Mittenwald, Krün and Wallgau. Thousands of undulations make the landscape look almost unreal and a little playful. This unique grass-covered hill landscape is highly worthy of protection and a relic of the last ice age. 1,000 of a total of 1,200 hectares of natural Bavarian humped meadows are located in the Karwendel Alpine World, the majority in the area between Tennsee, Krün and Mittenwalder Kranzberg. To keep it that way, our farmers put a lot of effort into managing the land by hand and with livestock. These traditional techniques preserve over 200 plant species and many alpine herbs. Here, the scythe is still used traditionally, fertilizers are avoided and flocks of sheep and goats graze on the humped meadows.
