Thomas converter of the Hörder boiler forge from 1954. Used until 1964 at the Thomas steel plant Phoenix-Ost. The Thomas bulb has a height of 7 meters and weighs 64 tons.
The Thomas process (or "Thomas process") refers to a process for steel production and was named after the British metallurgist Sidney Thomas (1850-1885). The steel created in this way is called Thomasstahl.

The converter is the last to be built in the Hörder boiler smithy in 1954. It was in operation until the Thomas steelworks closed in 1964. The Thomas pear was used to produce steel from pig iron. For this purpose, air was blown through the bottom of the converter filled with pig iron, which burned the undesirable components in the iron.
