This tree was planted on January 24, 1798, to celebrate Vaud independence. On this date, the Bernese occupants left the canton they had been sitting for 262 years.
The Lemanic Republic which was founded on the occasion lasted until 1803, when the canton of Vaud integrated the Helvetic Confederation.
