It is proven that there was already a bridge here in the Middle Ages, which enabled the local population and travelers to cross the Dinkel. The passage was of great importance for the movement of goods and livestock on the nearby trade routes.
Research by the historian Josef Wermert indicates that this place was used in a variety of ways. Based on his research results, members of the Heimatverein developed the stele shown above in close cooperation with the artist Michael Franke from Erkelenz. The metal processing was carried out by the local company MVK.
The stele and the associated information board were set up and donated by the local history association Nienborg. In a ceremony on October 19, 2014, the stele was handed over to the public.
The symbols of the stele refer to historical aspects of the place.

The Heimatverein Nienborg has set up a beautiful stele with symbols at this point. These are explained on the notice board next to it. You learn how important the transition over the spelled was in the past. There are also nice benches nearby to rest on.
