Beautiful, nature-left, forest with Limes tower and Limes fence! 🤩

The excursion destination Kastell Zugmantel was once a Roman military camp on the Upper German Limes. According to archaeological finds, it was built around the year 90. Today there is a reconstructed watchtower at the site where it was found.

Bus stop in front of the parking lot, drove from there to Wiesbaden to spend the night one last time, next year I will start here again and walk the next sections of the Limes hiking trail.
For me it was not important to experience a lot and to take part in festivals or the like. I was primarily concerned with the journey - which, as is well known, is the goal. I hiked 7 wonderful days with very few contacts. Mostly dog owners or joggers near the next place. Most of the time I was alone with myself, my feet and my thoughts. So my very personal Lime pilgrimage. It was nice - even if most of the paths are unfortunately no longer hiking forest paths, but like in other areas also gravel and tarred for forestry work, which is a shame for the hiker and also for the forest. It is also not so nice that many paths are combined for cost reasons and thus some parts of the path lead far away from the actual route. My map material was a bit older and I was confused at times, but I was also able to find older markings.
