The east church is built of locally broken sandstone masonry with corner ashlars on a 387 meter high plateau, the oval base of which is about 200 × 250 meters.[12] The unhewn, red sandstones were originally plastered white. Martin's Church is located in the northwest of the cemetery, which is located within the former Carolingian castle complex. The single-nave hall and the squat west tower date from the 11th century.

The view from the Christenberg alone is splendid, the Martinskirche and the Küsterhaus are the highlights up here. The approach from the Franzosenwiesen is also a great experience on great forest paths.
