This wonderful pumping station is over 200 years old and still in excellent condition thanks to considerable volunteer time. The station opened in 1812 to pump water from the River Avon to the neighbouring canal using a waterwheel to generate power.

The pumping station was recently adopted by the Claverton Pumping Station Group, a collection of local enthusiasts who lovingly restored the station in the 60s. Now, with the support of the Canal and River Trust, the group continue to maintain it and are hoping to make it operational once more.
