At the turn of the 19th century, William Smith lived here at Tucking Mill, a stunning hamlet. Smith is considered the father of English geology as he created the first national map of England and Wales.

It's often assumed that he lived at the cottage in Tucking Mill, a particularly beautiful building with a plaque outside dedicated to him. However, it's more likely he lived at the house just up the road to the north a little way.
