The building rises almost a kilometer outside of Kettenis in a lowland. The moated castle was first mentioned in 1334. From 1964 Libermé was converted into a restaurant and completely renovated in 1995/96 after a change of ownership. Listed as a Historical Monument, Libermé Castle is now privately owned.
