The lake has an area of approx. 7000 square meters and is 6 - 7 m deep at the deepest point. It is mainly fed by a spring below the water surface on the left side of the jetty. It is therefore very dangerous to step on the ice in winter when it is frozen, as it is very thin in this area. The water is extremely cold. It was created in 1935 by what was then the Reich Labor Camp "Bischborner Hof". The material was carted in from the surrounding area with lorries and a dam was built. It was used as a wet storage area for the conservation of trunk wood. From 1960 to 1970 it was leased to the then sawmill owners (the Eberhard family) and used for fish farming. It has been leased by the former forester Hubert Gebhard since 1973 and is lovingly preserved as a biotope.

This beautiful lake was added to the list of natural monuments on April 13, 1977.
