The Semois has its sources in the city of Arlon in Belgium, in the basement of rue Sonnetty. It then heads towards the Gaume which it crosses and which constitutes the major part of its journey, to enter the Ardennes. It will have crossed, among others, Fouches, Sampont, Étalle, Tintigny, Chiny, Lacuisine, Florenville, Herbeumont, Cugnon, Auby-sur-Semois, Dohan, Bouillon, Poupehan, Frahan, Vresse-sur-Semois and Bohan.

This Gaume locality on the edge of the Ardennes is located on the right bank of the Semois opposite the village of Izel located on the opposite bank. A bridge connects the two villages. Chiny is 7.5 km downstream of the Semois and Jamoigne 3 km upstream. The village extends downstream from the Semois by the hamlet of Laneuville.

If going West, remember how narrow the Smois is here to notice how wide the river gets :)
